Keep Ghana Beautiful, a Non-profit Organization in Ghana participated in this years’ maiden National Tree Planting Exercise in the Achimota Community to promote SDG 15 and to keep their communities green and beautiful. A research survey conducted in the community by the organization revealed a high rate of deforestation and the lack of peoples’ commitment in keeping their environment green and beautiful for all.

Deforestation is the permanent removal of trees as a result of human activities such as urbanization, mining activities among others. This affects wildlife, ecosystems, weather patterns and even the climate. The mass destruction of trees is sacrificing the long term benefits of standing trees for the short term gain.
As a major means for promoting Sustainable Development Goal 15, we adopted the planting of trees and the greening of communities to help absorb the high levels of carbon dioxide we exhale and generate enough oxygen for the survival of life on land.

As part of observing COVID-19 safety protocols, the team of 6, engaged the youth and school pupils from Anumell Basic School in the Achimota community to plant over 100 tree species in the community. This exercise will help enhance life activities on our land and reduce the negative effects of climatic conditions in Ghana.
