The Issue

With the burgeoning population growth and its unprecedented waste generation in the country, there is a great desire to develop more sustainable communities. All over the country, the lack of environmental consciousness further elevates the waste management crisis. There is incessant littering and indiscriminate illegal dumping in public spaces, including sand pits, old quarries, beaches, storm drains and even in certain areas along streets, without due regards to the dangers it poses to the human health and the environment. Additionally, the indiscriminate littering and disposal of pure-water sachets and PET bottles make the environment dirty, pollute water bodies and choke drainage systems to serve as breeding grounds for the Anopheles mosquito that causes Malaria- a leading killer disease in Africa. By not properly managing our solid waste and recycling, we further destroy the natural beauty of our communities.

Our Approach

At Keep Ghana Beautiful, our mission is to provide expertise and programs that engage and empower citizens to take actions to prevent  littering, improve recycling, and green and beautify our communities. We work in partnership with local volunteers, as well as public and private organizations to create long-lasting impact that provides economic and social benefits to our communities. Our research-based, measurable, and locally-focused programs align with targets under the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) 3, 4, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 17 for a more sustainable future.

Our Vision

To make Ghana Beautiful and develop citizens responsible for building vibrant communities.
